Red has connotations of danger which suggests something is going to happen to the character.

One way is the headline is eye catching with the use of the colours and large font size which engages the reader quickly. The strapline creates interest as it makes the audience wonder who she is.

3.      Explain two ways that the images on the front cover of the ‘Radio Times’ generate meaning for the audience (4).


Another way is the use of colour such as black, yellow red which connotates that the inside content of the film contains horror and mystery.

4.      Explain what is meant by the term ‘preferred reading’, using one example from what I have studied.

Preferred reading is when audiences respond to the product the way media producers want/expect them to. An example of this is the ‘shampoo advert’ which the audience consumed whether it would work for them.

5.      Explain two ways that typography is used on the front cover of the Big Issue to create meaning to the reader (4).

One way is large written text ‘WORST’ being written in bold signifies that there is never peace in America. The short attractive words which engage the audience quickly.

Another way is the ellipses at the end which signify that there is never an end and there is more bad moments to come. The title ‘what’s the worst that could happen…’ is big and bold which signifies that it is easy to catch the reader’s eye.

6.      Explain two ways that design principles have been used on the front cover of The Big Issue to create meaning audience (4).

One way is how Donald Trump head has been enlarged has connotations of him being egotistical and cares only about his own opinions.

Another way is the fact that people are running around from the white house signifies they are worried about the future and how they are worst enemies with Russia.

7.      Analyse the ways that image manipulation has been used to create specific representations on The Big Issue front cover (10).

One-way image manipulation has been used is by the world being in Donald Trumps hand which connotates that he feels he is in control of everything. This links to how he feels his opinions is the only thing that matters due to his head been enlarged. Another way is how the background strikes of lightning which connotates there is more bad moments to come and America is never at peace.

Another way is how the earth is held in Donald Trump’s hand which has connotations of how he is big headed and feels like he handles everyone. Donald Trump’s facial expressions clearly signify he can say whatever he wants to his biggest enemies. Such as Russia. The white house behind Donald Trump with someone running out of the house with a panicked look on their faces signifies that they are worried about their own future of their country. The worst enemy of Russia with America puts them at risk due to Donald Trump being represented as the main person on The Big Issue cover.

‘Fake news this is a fake story’ suggests that he is against everyone and signifies this magazine cover is over exaggerated.

8.      Analyse how the character has been represented on this front cover of Big Issue. (10)

The character is represented as being an important person who is responsible for the key moments which took place in the 20 centuries. Kiefer Sutherland is dominant on TV trailers and billboards. The character is also represented as old and scruffy looking which signifies he has been doing this job for a long while. The facial expression of the person connotates he is keen and proud of what he is doing for the community and that he has a good strong reputation. The costume of the guy signifies him as being poor and not being able to afford much due to why he is doing a street job and helping other people out.



9.      Explain the term ‘hypodermic model’ using one example from any media text previously studied. (2).

Hypodermic model is known as the syringe model which is a model of communication suggesting that an intended message is directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver. An examples is people violent games using games such as Fortnite. Which could lead them to doing it in the future.

10.  Reference to the Luther DVD front/back cover, discuss how media texts can be interpreted different audiences (10).

One way is the use of red and black colours together connotates that the Luther cover is important and contains dangerous scenes in it. This is shown by on the back cover a breakdown of what happens in the film. This can be interpreted differently by different audience as some people may think they it may only contain some violence and murder, but the red can exaggerate what happens. The front cover clearly shows Luther, in a business clothing with the title ‘Idris Elba Luther. Another way is the audience may think Luther is the bad character and main character due to him being the only one of the magazine cover. This has connotations of different thoughts on Luther from the audience.

Referencing to Luther’s back cover may make the audience think there is a lot of dangerous and violent scenes as there is an image of someone getting strangled. This can link to how there would be a lot of murdering and blood.

11.  Analyse how masculinity is represented in any media texts previously studied (10).

Masculinity represented as men being the main characters and how they are much more important than women in Luther’s film. Linking to the images men are likely shown as being violent and dangerous due to the small scenery images which are being shown. It is likely shown that masculinity is shown a lot in this film. This can be linked to Male Gaze theory as most media is constructed predominantly for male audience. The way men are presented in different film depends on the story on the film and what the story is about.



12.  Evaluate how media texts represent reality using examples from previously studied (20).

Media texts such as the image of young Muslim girls linking to masks and perverts in reality which has connotations of how different two certain images can be before the input of editing. This can be linked to Baudrillard’s theory of representations as he said how there are different stages of representation which could be linked back to reality. There is a clear distinction between reality and media representations becoming blurred or invisible to us.
